Golf's biggest hitters return, along with pyrotechnics and live music
Have you always wanted to get into golf, but been put off by the lack of fireworks? If so, you might just appreciate a heads up on what’s coming to town pretty soon.
The Long Drive World Tour is rolling back into Dubai on Saturday February 9 at Jumeirah Golf Estates. It’s kicking off the new season for 2018, and it promises to be a right old giggle.
The objective is pretty straight forward – literally just hit the ball as far as you can. It sounds a lot like the Twenty20 cricket of the golfing world, so expect muscle-golfers with no short game knocking 336 dimples and seven bells out of some golf balls – all accompanied by pyrotechnics, DJs and food trucks. Spectacular.
You also have the chance to take part in the tournament, and potentially win your share of a Dhs94,500 prize pot for claiming top UAE honours, because there will be three UAE wild card contestants taking part.
More than 1,000 spectators rocked up for the event last year, and the longest drive checked in at 335 yards, so there’s some motivation for you big hitters out there.
Open qualifying takes place at 10am on Saturday February 9, the morning of the main event. Entry for the qualifying session is Dhs996, which also comes with two VIP tickets for the main event plus access to the players’ lounge.
